What is multi-factor authentication?

According to the NIST, multi-factor authentication (MFA for short), is a security enhancement that allows you to present two pieces of evidence – your credentials – when logging in to an account. Credentials are defined by three categories:
- something you know (i.e. a password or pin),
- something your have (i.e. a smart card),
- something you are (i.e. fingerprints)

MFA is also sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication (2FA) or dual-factor authentication.

Students: You will need to use DUO when you log into TAMUCT services that are located behind our blue login screen (Warrior Web, email, Canvas, etc)
- Employees: You will need to use DUO when you access:
- SSO for services like Workday, Canopy, etc.
- TAMUCT services that are located behind our blue login screen (Warrior Web, email, Canvas, etc)
- Note: Once you have enrolled in DUO, you will also see it utilized at the TAMU Gateway when you change your NetID password.
How do I enroll in DUO?
- Students and Employees: You will automatically be prompted to enroll in DUO upon your first-time login to a system protected by DUO. Please follow the onscreen instructions.

- Employees Only:
- If you log into SSO using your UIN, please visit this link and follow the instructions.
- If you log into SSO using your NetID, please visit this link and follow the instructions.
Items required to use DUO:
- The DUO app installed on a cell phone/tablet/other mobile device on which you can receive a push notification, enter an app-generated code, or answer a phone call.
- Employees: Your NetID and UIN username and password
- Students: Your myCT username and password
